PHILOSOPHY

I believe that making art and being expressively creative is at the heart of living a joyful and fulfilling life! Without the arts, we leave ourselves open to experience depression, anxiety, anger, fear, isolation and boredom. As humans we need to create, have sensory experiences, express ourselves both verbally and non-verbally and self-soothe in a healthy and safe way. Incidentally, this has nothing to do with making works of art that will go into a museum or performing music perfectly in order to become a famous! This is about being excited by the process of creating something and experiencing moments that are beautifully personal that would otherwise not exist or happen without the help of a trained professional.

SCHEDULING

I keep a flexible schedule- mornings, afternoons and evenings are available, as well as holidays.

RATES

Expressive Arts Groups- rates vary based on materials for projects, number of participants. For art groups in nursing homes and specifically memory care units I ask that there be at least and aide or two present to assist with personal needs of participants.

Music performances - Flexible rates can apply depending on frequency of visits and distance traveled. I offer two kinds of sound system options that I can use depending on the size and needs of the group/audience.

A BIT ABOUT ROBINLEE

Robinlee is a Masters level, Board Certified and Registered Art Therapist who has been using art, music, and other creative activities with people from all ages and backgrounds for over 20 years.

Robinlee trained with and was a graduate assistant for Dr Harriet Wadeson in obtaining her Masters in Art Therapy (1996) at the University Of Illinois of Chicago. It was from Dr Wadeson, one of the “grandmothers of art therapy,” from whom she learned how to use a person-centered eclectic approach with all of her clients, and was encouraged to use a mixture of creative arts interventions to help bring insight, express emotions that cannot be put into words, and promote an overall sense of mental and emotional well-being.

Robinlee has taught courses on Art Therapy and Materials at Northwestern University for  the Art Therapy Certificate Program. She has lectured abroad in Finland alongside Dr Linda Levine Madori, by whom she has also been trained, to teach about Therapeutic Thematic Arts Programming for people with dementia. She has presented at conferences for the Illinois Art Therapy Association (IIATA),  American Art Therapy Association (AATA), and the Expressive Therapy Summit in NYC on topics such as building community with seniors by using art and also using mixed media and multi-modal approaches to maintain brain health. As a clinician, Robinlee has worked steadily as a Clinical Expressive Arts Therapist in hospitals, outpatient settings, community counseling centers, university counseling centers, hospice organizations, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and also for private clients.

Robinlee earned her BFA in 1989  from Carnegie-Mellon University, where she majored in both drawing and glass sculpture. Upon graduation she earned a scholarship to study for the summer at Dale Chihuly’s Pilchuck School of Glass in Seattle, Washington. She is also a skilled musician and songwriter who has regularly sought out music therapy training and clinical supervision regarding specific populations with whom she will include music alongside art therapy.
